Production Evaluation
I believe the production of a satirical comedy is supported by the evidence of my survey - as satire is appreciated across the age ranges.
Everyone has experienced language training, and the tropes of language courses are familiar to everyone, and this comedy makes gentle fun of them. I aimed for a surreal humour - that would appeal to a broad audience.
Retro artwork - that might appeal to an older age group, whilst being simple enough to have a cartoonish appeal that might appeal to a younger group.
I had originally planned a sitcom but unfortunately key cast members were unavailable at the time I needed to shoot, and so I had to rethink how I could do a version that did not rely on such a cast.
I used a drawing pad to create cartoon artwork of vocabulary items. I created the prop of a videotape so as to build the story that I had found a video in a charity shop. I added my own music to it which I felt added to the low-key styling. For the language examples, I pitch-shifted my voice in order to differentiate it from my voice as used in the introduction. Drawing the artwork was time-consuming. It would have been good to have been able to use a cast to vary the voices.
I was pleased with the retro look of my production and I felt that the humour worked and was reinforced by the production styling. I feel that it could fit within a TV sketch show format.
